How to Get Rainbow Text on Instagram Stories

Instagram doesn’t offer a rainbow or any ombre option when it comes to text; you’re only given a select amount of solid colors to pick from.

However, there’s a trick that lets you access the color spectrum and manipulate its application to text, resulting in a rainbow ombre effect.

First, you’ll go about adding your text normally to your Story:

1. Create your Story as you normally would, then tap on Aa at the top right to open the text editor.
2. Type your text and hold down on it until you see a popup. From the popup, tap Select All.
3. Tap the color wheel at the top to open the text color selection.

Here’s where the trick to getting the rainbow effect comes in.

To get a rainbow color effect on your Instagram Story text, follow these steps:

1. Hold down anywhere at the bottom of the color circles. The color spectrum will become visible and your text will immediately change to whichever color you’re pressing down on.
2. While you’re still holding down on the colors, start dragging the text selector from the right to the left. And at the same time, start dragging your finger across the color spectrum. You’ll see the text take on the different colors you’re swiping over wherever the selector is positioned.
3. Stop dragging the selector tool when only a few letters are selected. Tap away and hit Done.

You can also apply different colors to parts of your text by selecting different colors on the spectrum. While you can use this to create a rainbow effect, you can technically also use it to create other types of ombre and partial color effects.
