The U.S. President Donald Trump has tweeted out to Tim Cook saying that the “button on the IPhone was FAR better than the Swipe!” The president is referring to Touch ID found on the older iPhones and comparing it to Face ID which is now the standard on all new iPhones.
The tweet from Trump also suggests that he only recently switched to an iPhone X or newer model featuring Face ID and was previously using an iPhone 8 or lower.

While Apple has gone all-in on Face ID and switched its entire iPhone lineup over to it, many iPhone owners tend to still prefer Touch ID. The former might be more convenient in certain situations, but Touch ID works better in less than ideal situations as well.
Face ID was notably slower than Touch ID when it had first debuted on the iPhone X in 2017. Apple has made some major speed improvements with software updates in this regard to remove this pain point at least. However, one major issue with Face ID that still remains is that it does not work when one is not directly looking at the display. This can be an issue when the phone is lying flat on a table, when one is driving, etc.
There are reports of Apple working on an in-display Touch ID sensor for future iPhones. This will likely be a part of the 2021 iPhones, though the company is trying to include them in 2020 iPhones provided the development is done on time.
Trump’s tweet is unlikely to have any impact on Apple’s feature roadmap for upcoming iPhones. However, if you also hate Face ID and preferred Touch ID, you will at least find solace in the fact that many powerful people feel the same as you about it.
