Twitter has changed its election-related warning labels to reflect the outcome of the 2020 US presidential election. As such, the warning labels now state that President-elect Joe Biden is the winner of the election.
Twitter Names Biden the Winner of the US Election
During the US presidential election, Twitter rolled out labels that warned users about potential election-related misinformation. These labels were put in place to counter Tweets with premature declarations of victory, allegations of voter fraud, as well as false election results.
Twitter even slapped President Donald Trump’s Tweet with a label after he falsely declared victory in the presidential election. The label warned users that the information in his Tweet is “disputed and might be misleading about an election.”
Twitter has since added a new label to the bunch. The label was first seen on President Trump’s Tweet, but it will likely be stamped on the Tweets of other users as well.
….discussing the possibility that it may be China (it may!). There could also have been a hit on our ridiculous voting machines during the election, which is now obvious that I won big, making it an even more corrupted embarrassment for the USA. @DNI_Ratcliffe @SecPompeo

President Trump’s Tweet claims that there was voter fraud during the presidential election and that he “won big.” In response, Twitter applied its new label that says: “Election officials have certified Joe Biden as the winner of the US Presidential Election.”
Clicking on the label will direct you to a Twitter Moments page where you’ll see the results of the presidential election. The page clearly states that Joe Biden has officially become the president-elect after the electoral votes were counted.
Scroll down on this page, and you’ll see a series of Tweets from news outlets, like The New York Times, NBC, and the Associated Press. All of these Tweets contain reports that name Joe Biden as the winner of the presidential election.
President Trump has violated Twitter’s rules on misinformation a number of times. Not only has Trump sent out Tweets that make claims about voter fraud, spread undisputed claims about COVID-19, and question the results of the presidential election, Twitter hasn’t suspended or banned his account.
Trump is only immune to any consequences on Twitter for one reason: his world leader status. Once Joe Biden assumes office in 2021, Twitter has stated that Trump’s account will lose these special permissions. This means that Trump’s Tweets will be subject to removal, and his account may be banned or suspended for future rule violations.
The End of Trump on Twitter?
President Trump’s Twitter account is likely to be taken down if he continually turns to Twitter to make disputed claims. If that ends up happening, Trump will probably have to use Parler as his main source of communication. Parler has risen in popularity among political conservatives, and markets itself as a “free speech social network.”
